Return for revision and resubmit
Instead of rejecting a request that only needs a fix, an approver can return it. The submitter edits and resubmits on the same record, so history and attachments stay together.
When to use
Use it when the request is mostly right but a field, amount, or attachment needs correcting.
Before you start
| Setting | Effect | Default |
|---|---|---|
requests.return_for_revision | Enables returning a request for editing | Off (new companies: On) |
Workflow
Approver returns the request
In My Tasks, the approver chooses to return the request and explains what must change.
Submitter is notified
The submitter is told the request was returned.
Submitter edits
The submitter fixes the request on the same record, without creating a new one.
Resubmit
The submitter resubmits and the request goes through approval again.
Tips & common mistakes
- Always write a clear reason, since the submitter only sees what you write.
- Use reject, not return, when the request should not proceed at all.
- If the Return option is missing, check the toggle above.
