Linking key results to work
Key results can follow real work so numbers update on their own.
When to use
Use this when a key result is delivered by real work: tasks, a KPI or a training course. Linking means the key result moves by itself when the work moves, so progress is not retyped by hand.
Before you start
- Permissions:
okrs:task-link,okrs:kpi-linkandokrs:course-linkfor the respective links;okrs:writeto edit the key result. people.okr_kpi_sync(default off) makes completing a linked LMS course check in the key result.- You can link only objects you are allowed to see; an unavailable object is reported as not found.
Open the key result
From OKR → My OKRs (/okr/my-okrs), open the objective and the key result you want to link.
Add the link
Link a task, a KPI or an LMS course, depending on how the result is delivered.
Let it update
As the linked work changes, the key result value and milestones follow; you only add context in check-ins.
What each link does
| Link | Effect |
|---|---|
| Task | The task status feeds the key result or milestone |
| KPI | When the KPI actual is recorded, the key result syncs |
| LMS course | Course completion can check in the key result (with the toggle on) |
When a cycle closes, the KPI links of that cycle are cleaned up.
Tips & common mistakes
- Link a KPI when the number already exists elsewhere; avoid double entry.
- Use tasks for milestone-style key results.
- If a link cannot be added, check your link permission for that type.
- Unlink before reusing a task in another key result.
